ASHMOROT. Music composition & live electronics in three acts:

Júlia Bel, narration & pandero quadrado

Mai Choma, violin

Ifat Zvirin, narration (recorded)

Duration: 12 minutes.

Ashmorot is a work for electronics, voice, and violin. The title refers to the Jewish concept which divides the night into three equal parts.
The composition also has three parts of equal duration, each reflecting on one notion from the LABA Night study sessions – darkness, dreams, and dawn.
The opening movement, Darkness, features recordings of Judeo-Spanish lullabies, accompanied by a live violin.
The second movement, Dreams, presents excerpts from Song of Songs in live and recorded voices.
The last movement, Dawn, uses field recording made in the Call.
All the sounds in the work, recorded or live, are processed electronically, creating a dreamlike state in between the familiar and the strange. Additionally, the piece puts Casa Adret itself in the center, using special speakers to amplify and resonate sounds through the house’s patio staircase.
