SHMITA
SHMITA | is a site-specific 30-minute performance that explores different vulnerable moments as a rite of passage. Shmita is the biblical term for a sabbatical year, which comes after 7 years of working “the landscape of life”, in which there is time to observe and release from the work. In this creation, Laura touches the theme of change as a sequence of lived experiences and compounds from many moments that shape where we focus and who we are. And, when lived from a place of truth, it leads to a state of release. “Letting the change be” means letting a piece of yourself die in the current identity, as well as discovering how to feel at home in the new state of being.
Through curiosity, truth, vulnerability and playfulness, this piece wishes to connect with the viewer, allowing them to explore and express a sense of home in their changing being, in their own creative way.
Laura focuses on merging meaningful movement with storytelling and visual art in a multidisciplinary way as an invitation to reflect on what happens when the land of our lives asks for a complete act of radical honesty and release. What happens when it demands from identity to change, to such a degree that identity needs to be almost reborn and reshaped completely?
