Maya Geller
Preliminary project idea for LABA
Looking back at old photos from when I was still pregnant in Israel, happily nesting, and comparing them
to pictures of our little family now—it feels like two completely different lives.
It’s not just that another person was born into our home; everything has changed. From the look in our eyes, to the clothes we
wear, the food we eat, the streets we walk, the language we speak, and even how safe we feel in the
world—it’s as if we are still trying to catch up with the rapid pace of these changes.
When can we turn off the “survival mode” and peacefully settle into our new home, persona, and routine?
Are we there yet? This project will explore the gap between the life we knew and the life we are building.
It will delve into the depth of the change we’ve been forced to take and continue choosing every single
day. Is the change we are experiencing a disintegration or a reconstruction? I aim to capture this
transition in photos, videos, and any other medium that reveals itself along the way.
